What can I do with the DOOR App? (resident overview)

The DOOR App is how residents unlock doors, control DOOR Smart Home devices, and book services from their phone. The Home screen has four main areas — Home, Access, Devices, and Services — reachable from the bottom navigation bar. This article is a tour of what each section does.

This article is for residents. Property managers have a different app view — see Get to know the DOOR App for Property Managers.

Building selector (top of the Home screen)

The building name at the top of the Home screen shows which property you are currently viewing. If your DOOR account has access to more than one building, tap the building name to switch between them. The Access, Devices, and Services sections update to show what is available at the selected building.

Navigation bar (bottom of every screen)

Four tabs at the bottom of the DOOR App:

  • Home — returns to the Home screen.
  • Access — all your doors; unlock, reorder, view or reset doorcodes, manage guests.
  • Devices — opens a screen with Controls to see DOOR Smart Home devices assigned to your unit.
  • Services — book on-demand services (HelloTech handyman, TV mounting, cleaning, and similar) directly from the app.

Home screen

The Home screen is a shortcut panel. It surfaces:

  • Up to 3 doors under the Access tile. Reorder your doors under Access — the top 3 in the list are the ones that appear on Home. Tap any of them to unlock.
  • Smart Home devices, if your property has DOOR Smart Home. You can see thermostat settings, whether a light was left on, humidity, and interact with devices without opening the full Devices tab.
  • Notifications bell in the top right — opens alerts from devices.
  • Profile picture in the top right — opens account details: edit your name, change your profile photo, contact support, or sign out.

Depending on your property's offerings, the Home screen may also surface work-order submission, bookable spaces (amenity reservations), and other features.

Access

The Access section lists every door assigned to your account — lobby, front door, garage, unit, amenity doors, and so on. Each door has an Unlock button that performs a Bluetooth unlock.

There are additional unlock methods beyond the button:

  • Hold Near to Unlock — hold your phone near the door to unlock automatically (iOS: always on; Android: toggle under Access → Settings).
  • NFC unlock (Android only, on supported firmware) — toggle under Access → Settings.
  • NFC Background Unlock (Android only) — unlock without unlocking your phone or opening the app.
  • Doorcodes — view and reset your 7-digit doorcode.
  • Android Widget — see Unlock with the Android Widget.
  • iOS Shortcuts — see Using iOS Shortcuts for the DOOR App.
  • Short Doorcodes — for select doors when enabled by your property manager. See Short Doorcodes.

For a complete walkthrough of every unlock method, see How do I unlock my door with DOOR?.

Devices

The Devices tab (from the bottom navigation bar) shows Controls — where every DOOR Smart Home device connected to your unit or building lives: thermostats, light switches, leak detectors, and others. Tap a device in Controls to control it or see its current state.

Quick controls for lights and thermostats are also available directly from the Home screen tile without opening the Devices tab.

If your building does not use DOOR Smart Home, the Controls sub-tab may be empty or reduced. It does not affect door access.

Services

The Services section lets you book on-demand services directly from the DOOR App through HelloTech. Current offerings include:

  • TV mounting
  • Home cleaning
  • Handyman tasks
  • Furniture assembly

Bookings are made through the DOOR App but delivered by HelloTech — you pay and coordinate through that flow.

Notifications and profile (top right)

Two icons in the top right corner of the Home screen:

  • Notifications bell — updates related to your Smart Home devices, services, and reservations. You can customize which notifications you receive and how in the notification settings.
  • Profile picture — tap to open your account details: edit your name, change your profile photo, contact support, or sign out.

When to contact DOOR support

Email support@door.com if:

  • You cannot find a section described in this article (Devices tab missing, Services tab missing) and your property manager confirms it should be available.
  • The app opens but none of the navigation tabs work.
  • You see sections that seem incorrectly enabled for your account.

For issues with specific features — unlocking, Smart Home, services — use the dedicated articles linked below instead of emailing general support.
