How do I shorten my residential doorcode?

When your property enables shorter doorcodes, you'll receive an email confirmation. After that, you can reset your unit doorcode to the new shorter length.

About this feature

Doorcode length is a property-level setting managed by your property team. When the property changes the preferred length (for example, from 7 digits to 5), each resident gets an email confirmation and can then reset their unit doorcode to take advantage of the shorter format.

Shorter doorcodes require Firmware 2.0.7 or later on your Latch device. Before resetting, confirm your device is on a supported firmware version.

Before you start

  • You have received an email from DOOR confirming that shorter doorcodes are now available at your property.
  • Your unit's Latch device is running Firmware 2.0.7 or later (check in Device Details — see step 3 below).
  • You are within Bluetooth range of your unit door.

Steps

  1. Open the DOOR App and go to Access.
  2. Tap your unit door.
  3. Tap Device Details and check the Firmware Version.
  4. Tap Reset Doorcode. The app generates your new shorter code.
  5. Perform a Door Sync while within Bluetooth range of your unit door — see How do I perform a Door Sync?. This pushes the new shorter code to the lock.

Your new shorter doorcode is active as soon as the sync completes.

If the property later increases the code length

If your property manager sets a longer default length after you've been using a shorter code, your doorcode is automatically updated to the new length. You don't need to do anything — the change is applied the next time the lock syncs.
