This guide covers installing a DOOR Power Switch in place of a standard wall switch. It involves working with line-voltage (120 VAC) wiring, so if you are not comfortable doing so, hire a qualified, licensed electrician.
Important: Turn off the circuit at the breaker before you begin, and verify the power is off with a voltage tester. Do not work on live wiring.
About this device
The Power Switch turns a fixture on and off over its wired terminals (it does not dim) and reports to the DOOR App through the DOOR Hub (it does not join WiFi). It requires a neutral wire. Schedules and the timer run locally on the device.
Requirements
- A neutral wire in the switch's electrical box. The Power Switch will not function without one; if absent, an electrician must add it.
- A load within limits: ≤ 600 W resistive, 5 A max (LED/CFL 150 W, incandescent 450 W). Indoor location only.
- 120 VAC, 60 Hz circuit.
- A DOOR Hub installed and online, and the DOOR App signed in with Device Management permissions.
In the kit
- Power Switch
- Faceplate screws (2) and electrical box screws (2)
- Wire connectors (4)
- Quick Start Guide
Tools
- Medium Phillips and small slotted screwdrivers
- Wire strippers or cutters
- Multimeter or voltage tester
Steps
- Turn off the circuit at the breaker. Test the existing switch and verify with a multimeter that the power is off.
- Remove the faceplate and the old switch, and pull it from the box. Keep the screws.
- Identify the wires: the ground (bare copper or green), the hot/line/live (usually black or red), the switch-leg/load wire to the light, and the neutral wire(s). If there are multiple neutrals, you may need a short jumper wire.
- Strip about ½ inch of insulation from each wire end and straighten it.
- Connect the wiring to the Power Switch terminals (see table). Join the switch's live wire and the box's live wire(s) under one wire connector. Tug each connection to confirm it's secure.
- Push the switch into the box and secure it with the screws. Attach the base plate and snap on the faceplate (in a multi-gang box, use your own trim plate instead).
- Restore power at the breaker.
- Test by turning the fixture off and on at the switch.
Wiring table
| Terminal | Wire |
|---|---|
| Live | Hot / line / live wire |
| Load | Switch-leg wire to the light |
| Neutral | Neutral wire (required) |
| Ground | Ground wire |
Activate in the DOOR App
Add the Power Switch to the DOOR App: tap Devices → Add a device → scan the QR code (or enter the serial number) → follow the steps, and assign it to the correct Unit.
3-way (two-location) control
The Power Switch is not compatible with traditional 3-way wiring. For two-location control, wire two DOOR switches as standard switches and pair them with Control-D2D pairing (a local, paddle-hold procedure that needs no app). Follow 3-Way Switch Configuration for DOOR Dimmer & Power Switch.
Verification
- The fixture turns off and on at the switch.
- The Switch Button status LED is green when on, red when off.
- The Power Switch shows Online in the DOOR App, assigned to the correct Unit.
Troubleshooting
- No power / no LED at the switch — confirm the breaker is on and the neutral wire is connected; the Power Switch needs a neutral.
- Fixture doesn't switch — recheck the Live and Load terminations against the wiring table.
