DOOR Dimmer Switches and Power Switches can be configured to operate in a 3-way switch setup—allowing lighting to be controlled from two locations. This configuration requires modification to traditional 3-way wiring and must be performed by a qualified electrician. It's essential that a neutral wire is present in each electrical box for compatibility.
Importantly, this setup does not require the DOOR App. Pairing is handled locally, directly between devices, with no app integration needed.
Supported Configurations
DOOR supports multiple 3-way configurations depending on the switches being used:
Dimmer-to-Dimmer Setup
- The system supports full dimming functionality.
- The light will follow the highest dimmer setting between the two switches.
- For example: If Switch A is set to 20% and Switch B is set to 60%, the light will output at 60%.
- Dimming levels do not sync between switches at this time.
Dimmer + Power Switch Setup
- The system still supports on/off control from both switches.
- The Dimmer Switch will lose all dimming capabilities and behave like a standard on/off switch.
Add-On Switch Configuration
- One switch is hardwired to the light (we recommend a Dimmer Switch for this).
- The second switch acts as an “add-on” and is not connected directly to the load.
- In this setup:
- The hardwired Dimmer will control brightness as expected.
- The add-on switch—even if it’s a Dimmer model—will only support on/off control, not dimming.
Device-to-Device Pairing
This local pairing process links the two switches:
To Pair:
- Ensure both switches are in the off position (LED shows solid red).
- At Switch 1, press and hold the switch paddle down for 5–10 seconds until the LED flashes green.
- If held too long and it flashes red, release, tap once, and try again.
- Repeat the same step at Switch 2.
- Wait a few moments for both LEDs to stop flashing—this confirms the connection.
- To finalize pairing, repeat the process in reverse:
- Start with Switch 2 (hold for 5–10 seconds).
- Then Switch 1 (hold for 5–10 seconds).
- Confirm that both switches now control the light as expected.
Removing Pairing
- Ensure both switches are in the off position (LED solid red).
- On Switch 1, press and hold for 10–15 seconds until the LED flashes red.
- Repeat the same on Switch 2.
- Wait for both LEDs to stop flashing.
- Repeat steps 2–3 in reverse order (starting with Switch 2).
- Confirm the switches are no longer linked and operate independently.
Note: If the devices are not paired in Device to Device, the light can still be turned on by either light switch, but can only be turned off by the light switch that turned it on. This will not damage devices.
These devices connect to the internet via Hub, and it does not connect directly to your WiFi or local network.
In order for remote access to the device from the DOOR App and for full functionality, a Hub is required.
