Installing DOOR Hub

This guide covers installing and bringing a DOOR Hub online so it can serve DOOR Smart Home devices at a property. The Hub is the gateway every sensor, Thermostat, Dimmer Switch, and Power Switch connects through, so it is installed first — before the devices it will serve. This article is written for installers and property managers with Device Management permissions.

About this device

The Hub connects to the internet over Ethernet, WiFi (2.4 GHz only), or — on the Cellular Hub — a built-in cellular SIM. The easiest setup is Ethernet "plug and play": connect the Hub to the router with the supplied cable and it comes online with no further configuration. Set the Hub up at a desk near your router first, confirm it comes online, then move it to its permanent indoor location. See the DOOR Hub overview for how the Hub fits into the smart home system.

Requirements

  • A DOOR account signed in to the DOOR App, with Device Management permissions to add the device.
  • A power outlet dedicated to the Hub's AC adapter.
  • An internet path: an open Ethernet port on the router/switch (recommended), or a 2.4 GHz WiFi network whose SSID is broadcast (not hidden) and that does not use multi-step/captive-portal authentication.
  • An indoor location that is clean, dry, away from heat, direct sunlight, metal, and RF sources (do not stack on or under the WiFi router).
  • For large properties or devices far from the Hub: plan for one or more additional Hubs to extend the >300 m wireless range.

In the kit

  • DOOR Hub (Field Station)
  • AC power supply adapter (5V/2A)
  • Ethernet cable ("patch cord")
  • Rechargeable backup battery (18650 Li-Ion, 3.6V, 2550mAh)

Tools

  • A phone with the DOOR App installed and signed in
  • The 2.4 GHz WiFi password (only if using WiFi instead of Ethernet)

Steps

  1. Install the backup battery if it ships separately, following the in-box instructions, then set the Hub on a desk near your router.
  2. Connect power. Plug the adapter into the Hub's power port and into the outlet, then set the power switch to ON. The green PWR LED flashes during startup, then turns solid green.
  3. (Ethernet) Connect the network cable. If you will run the Hub on Ethernet, use the supplied patch cord to connect it to an open port on your router or switch before you activate it. The blue Internet LED turns solid when the Hub reaches the internet.
  4. Add the Hub to the DOOR App. In the DOOR App, tap DevicesAdd a device. Approve camera access if prompted.
  5. Scan the QR code on the Hub. Hold the phone so the code fills the viewfinder. If you can't scan it, choose the option to enter the serial number instead.
  6. Follow the on-screen instructions to finish adding the Hub. During activation you choose the Hub's connection method — Ethernet, WiFi, or Cellular. This choice is made during activation and cannot be changed in the app afterward, so decide the internet path before you begin.
    • If you choose WiFi: select your 2.4 GHz network and enter its password when prompted. On mesh or WiFi 6 routers, you may need to temporarily disable the 5 GHz band while the Hub connects. On iOS, enable Local Network Access if prompted; on both platforms, allow Location access — it is required for WiFi setup.
  7. Move the Hub to its permanent indoor location and power it back up. Confirm it comes back online automatically.

Verification

  • The PWR LED is solid green and the Internet LED is solid blue.
  • In the DOOR App, the Hub shows Online.
  • If using WiFi, the app shows a green WiFi icon with your network's SSID beneath it. If you removed the Ethernet cable, confirm the Internet LED stays solid blue.

Troubleshooting

  • Hub not Online after connecting Ethernet — recheck both cable ends; check the Ethernet jack LEDs (green = connected to router; yellow fast-blink = normal data; off = a problem). Confirm the router port is live.
  • Can't connect over WiFi — confirm you selected the 2.4 GHz SSID, the password is correct, and the SSID is broadcast. On mesh/WiFi 6 routers, disable the 5 GHz band during connection.
  • Captive-portal or login WiFi — networks with a second verification step (hotel/airport style) are not supported. Use Ethernet or a standard WPA2 network.
