This article covers day-to-day operation of an Interconnect from a property manager's perspective: what to confirm after a new install, how credentials are assigned and updated, what DOOR OS reports about the device, and how to handle low-battery and periodic maintenance. For end-user unlocking instructions, residents and staff should follow standard DOOR app, doorcode, and Keycard guidance.
What you need to confirm after a new install
Once the installer hands off an activated Interconnect, run through this list before the door goes live for residents:
- Device shows Activated in DOOR OS — open Access → Doors → select the door → confirm Device Details shows the Interconnect as activated
- Initial Door Sync completed — the Sync page shows a recent sync timestamp
- At least one test credential works end to end — assign a test doorcode or Keycard, perform a Door Sync, and confirm an unlock
- Interior lever and thumbturn turn freely — confirm with the door open
- Deadbolt extends and retracts smoothly — confirm with both the interior thumbturn and a credential-driven unlock from outside
- Mechanical key operates the cylinder smoothly in both directions
If any of these fail, do not assign credentials to residents yet — see Interconnect troubleshooting or Installing Interconnect for diagnostics.
Supported credential types
| Credential | How residents and staff use it | Where it is managed |
|---|---|---|
| DOOR app (Bluetooth unlock) | Open the DOOR app and tap Unlock within Bluetooth range of the device | DOOR OS → People → assign a key for the door |
| Doorcode | Wake the Lens, enter the numeric code | DOOR OS → People → assign a key with a doorcode for the door |
| Latch Keycard | Tap the Keycard flat against the center of the Lens | DOOR OS → People → resident → Keycard information |
| Apple Watch | Bluetooth unlock from the DOOR app on watchOS | Same key as the DOOR app credential |
| Mechanical key | Insert into the exterior cylinder and turn | Issued physically by the property — not managed in DOOR OS |
Credential changes (new keys, schedule updates, revoked access) reach the device only after a Door Sync is performed from the DOOR app while in Bluetooth range. The Interconnect does not connect to WiFi, so changes do not push automatically.
Low-battery indicator
The Interconnect runs on 4 AA non-rechargeable alkaline batteries. Battery status reaches DOOR OS in two ways:
- Passive monitoring: DOOR OS shows the last reported battery level for the device. Open Access → Doors → select the door → Device Details to see the current reading
- Active notifications: when the device reports a critically low battery, residents see a battery warning in the DOOR app next to Device Details for that door
For the most accurate reading, perform a Door Sync first, then check Device Details. Plan a battery replacement before the device stops responding — once batteries are fully depleted, residents will need either the mechanical key or a Qi-compatible wireless charger to regain entry until the batteries are replaced. See Interconnect troubleshooting for the battery-emergency recovery flow.
Periodic maintenance
Schedule the following checks at each property where Interconnect devices are deployed:
- Battery replacement — replace the 4 AA alkaline batteries before they fully deplete. Replacement cadence depends on traffic, but plan around the warnings rather than a fixed calendar
- Door Sync after credential changes — any time a key is added, modified, or revoked in DOOR OS, the device needs a Door Sync from the DOOR app within Bluetooth range. Schedules and revocations are not enforced on the device until the sync completes
- Strike alignment — over time, doors can shift. If residents report stiff levers or the deadbolt binding, recheck the strike and armor plate alignment (Step 12 of the install guide)
- Cylinder operation — the mechanical key should turn smoothly. If residents report binding, the cylinder set screw or depth may need adjustment
- Firmware upgrades — DOOR manages firmware separately from Door Sync. When a firmware update is available for the device, it can be installed from the DOOR app: Access → select the door → Firmware upgrade
What DOOR OS shows for the device
DOOR OS displays:
- Whether the Interconnect is activated at this door
- The last reported battery level
- The last sync timestamp
- Any firmware update available for the device
DOOR OS does not show real-time online/offline status — the Interconnect operates without a network connection, so there is no live status to report. The presence of recent sync activity is the best signal that the device is functioning normally.
