Interconnect (eGenius) overview

The Interconnect is an interconnected mortise lock manufactured by TownSteel and integrated into the DOOR ecosystem (branded "Interconnect powered by Latch"). It is intended for commercial and multifamily entry doors where one credential needs to retract both the latchbolt and the deadbolt in a single motion. Residents and staff unlock with the DOOR app, a numeric doorcode entered on the Latch Lens, a Latch Keycard, or a standard mechanical key.

The Interconnect is a fully offline device. It does not connect to WiFi. Credential changes (new keys, schedules, revoked access) reach the device via a Door Sync performed from the DOOR app while in Bluetooth range. Firmware upgrades are a separate, DOOR-managed process — they are not part of a Door Sync.

The Interconnect includes a physical key cylinder (6-pin Schlage "C" Keyway). A standard mechanical key and the interior lever operates the lock at any time, independent of the app, doorcodes, or batteries.

Access methods

  • DOOR app: unlock via Bluetooth while within range of the device
  • Doorcode: numeric code entered on the Latch Lens
  • Latch Keycard: NFC tap against the Lens
  • Apple Watch: Bluetooth unlock from the DOOR app on watchOS
  • Mechanical key: a standard physical key in the exterior cylinder operates the lock at any time, independent of the app or batteries

How locking and unlocking work

From outside: The exterior lever is locked at all times — it cannot be turned without a valid credential. Present a credential (app, doorcode, Keycard, or Apple Watch) → the Lens spins to confirm acceptance → the lever hub engages → turn the lever down to retract the bolts and pull the door open. Because the Interconnect is an interconnected lock, presenting a credential and turning the lever down retracts the latchbolt and the deadbolt as a single action — the user does not need to operate the thumbturn first. Rotate the exterior lever up to extend the deadbolt. The exterior lever will automatically re-lock 10 seconds after credentialing.

From inside: The interior lever and thumbturn are always free. Turn the interior lever down to retract the latchbolt and exit (this also retracts the deadbolt if it is thrown — the interconnected mechanism works in both directions). Turn the thumbturn or rotate the lever up to extend the deadbolt manually. The deadbolt is not motorized.

With the mechanical key: Insert the key into the exterior cylinder. Rotate one direction to retract the bolts and open the door; rotate the other to throw or retract the deadbolt independently. The mechanical key works regardless of battery state.

Connectivity

The Interconnect uses Bluetooth Low Energy for app-based credential verification and NFC for Keycard reads. It does not connect to WiFi or any network. Credential updates reach the device via a Door Sync performed from the DOOR app while in Bluetooth range. Firmware upgrades are a separate, DOOR-managed process — they are not part of a Door Sync.

What DOOR OS shows

DOOR OS displays whether the Interconnect is activated and its last reported battery level. There is no real-time online/offline status — the device operates independently of any network connection.

Power

The Interconnect runs on 4 AA non-rechargeable alkaline batteries housed in the interior battery tray. The electronics (Bluetooth, NFC, Lens) consume the battery — the latchbolt and deadbolt themselves require no power to move. Battery level is reported to DOOR OS via passive monitoring and active notifications. Replace batteries before they are fully depleted.

If the batteries are fully depleted, two recovery paths are available:

  • The mechanical key can be used to operate the lock regardless of battery state. This is the simplest path to regain entry.
  • A Qi-compatible wireless charger held against the exterior Lens can provide enough power to perform a Bluetooth unlock from the DOOR app. The Interconnect uses the same Geneva Lens as the Latch C2 and Latch G-M2, so Qi jumpstart works as an emergency measure to regain entry before replacing batteries.

Door compatibility

  • Lock format: interconnected mortise lock (latchbolt + deadbolt operated as one mechanism)
  • Door thickness: 1-3/4" (44.5mm)
  • Backsets supported: 2-3/8" or 2-3/4" or Adjustable— backset is not field configurable (specified at order time)
  • Center-to-center spacing: two trim variants available — 4" CTC or 5.5" CTC. The trim variant must match the existing door prep
  • Latchbolt: 1/2" throw stainless steel deadlocking
  • Deadbolt: standard 1" throw
  • Handing: field reversible — the same Interconnect device can be installed on left-hand or right-hand doors
  • Cylinder: 6-pin Schlage "C" Keyway standard

What Interconnect is not

  • Not a deadbolt-only lock — for residential deadbolt doors, see Latch C1 or Latch C2
  • Not a non-interconnected mortise lock — for mortise installs where the latchbolt and deadbolt are operated separately, see Latch M2 or Latch G-M2
  • Does not connect to WiFi or any network
  • Does not include video or intercom capability — for visitor management, pair a DOOR Link or Latch Intercom at the building entry
