Interconnect (eGenius) activation and initial setup

After the Interconnect is physically installed, it must be activated before residents and staff can unlock with credentials from DOOR OS. Activation pairs the physical device with a door in DOOR OS and pushes the first set of credentials to the lock. This article covers the activation flow end to end, plus the verification steps to confirm the device is fully live.

About this flow

Activation has two parts:

  • The door must exist in DOOR OS before the device can be activated
  • The physical device is activated from the DOOR app while in Bluetooth range of the Interconnect

Activation is a one-time step performed by the installer (or, for self-managed installs, by a property manager with installer permissions). After activation, day-to-day credential changes are handled in DOOR OS and pushed to the device via Door Sync.

Before you start

  • The Interconnect is fully installed, batteries are in (4 AA non-rechargeable alkaline), and the Lens responds when a key is tapped
  • The phone running the DOOR app is within Bluetooth range of the Interconnect (about an arm's length from the exterior trim)
  • The DOOR app is signed in to an installer or property manager account with permission to activate devices at this property
  • The door where the Interconnect was installed exists in DOOR OS under AccessDoors. If it does not, create it first
  • You have the device's QR code label or the serial number (printed on the device near the battery tray)

Steps

1. Confirm the door exists in DOOR OS

  1. Log in to DOOR OS
  2. Go to AccessDoors
  3. Confirm the door where the Interconnect was installed appears in the list
  4. If not, create the door before proceeding to activation

2. Activate the device from the DOOR app

  1. Open the DOOR app on a phone within Bluetooth range of the Interconnect
  2. Go to the Devices tab
  3. Tap Add a device
  4. Scan the QR code on the device, or tap Enter serial number manually and type the serial number printed near the battery tray
  5. When prompted, select the door in DOOR OS to associate this device with
  6. Follow the on-screen flow to complete activation — the Lens may spin or beep as the device pairs
  7. When the flow completes, confirm the device appears as Activated in DOOR OS → AccessDoors → select the door → Device Details

A phone with the DOOR app must remain within Bluetooth range of the Interconnect for the entire activation flow. If the phone moves out of range mid-flow, the activation may fail and need to be retried.

3. Perform the first Door Sync

After activation, perform a Door Sync from the DOOR app to push the initial set of credentials to the device:

  1. In the DOOR app, go to Access → tap the Interconnect door
  2. Tap Sync option, then tap Sync button
  3. Wait for the sync confirmation — the Sync page shows the date and time of the last sync once it completes

The first sync delivers any keys, schedules, and doorcodes assigned to the door in DOOR OS.

4. Verify with a test unlock

Test each credential type that will be used at this door:

  • DOOR app: tap the door tile → Unlock. The Lens spins, the lever hub engages, and turning the lever retracts both bolts
  • Doorcode (if assigned in DOOR OS): wake the Lens, enter the code, confirm the Lens spins and the lever engages
  • Latch Keycard (if Keycards are issued at this property): tap the Keycard flat against the center of the Lens, confirm the Lens spins and the lever engages
  • Mechanical key: insert into the exterior cylinder and confirm the lock operates smoothly in both directions

If it didn't work

  • Activation fails repeatedly: confirm the device has fresh batteries and the Lens is responsive. If the device was previously installed at another property, it may already be registered — contact support@door.com to deactivate it before reuse
  • Activation succeeds but no credential works: perform a Door Sync from the DOOR app (Step 3 above) — credentials are not delivered to the device until a sync completes
  • Lens does not respond at all during activation: confirm batteries are inserted correctly (4 AA alkaline, polarity per the tray markings) and that wires were not pinched during install. See Interconnect troubleshooting for diagnostics
  • The DOOR app reports the device is out of range: stand directly next to the exterior trim with the phone. Bluetooth range is short (about an arm's length); concrete walls or metal door frames can further reduce it
