When your property adds you to DOOR, you'll receive an email invitation. This article explains what DOOR is, what the invitation email asks you to do, and what you'll be able to do once you're set up.
What is DOOR?
DOOR is the access platform your property uses to manage who can open which doors. With DOOR, your phone becomes the key to your apartment and shared spaces — no physical key required for most doors. You can also generate doorcodes, invite guests, and view a log of who has entered your unit.
First steps
After your invitation arrives, complete these steps in order:
- Create your DOOR account. Follow the link in the invitation email to set a password and confirm your account. See Create your DOOR account and download the app.
- Download and install the DOOR App on your iOS or Android phone. The invitation email includes links to the App Store and Google Play.
- Sign in to the DOOR App. Use the email address where you received the invitation and the password you just created. See Log in to the DOOR App for the first time.
- Allow the permissions the app requests. Bluetooth is required to unlock doors; Location is required on iOS for Bluetooth to function; Notifications let the app send you guest and alert updates. See Permissions the DOOR App needs on your phone.
- Try your first unlock. Open the app, and hold your phone near your unit door. See How do I unlock my door with the DOOR App?.
What you'll be able to do
Once your account is active and the app is installed:
- Unlock your doors using your phone (Bluetooth), a doorcode on the lock's keypad, or a Latch Keycard (if your property issues them).
- View your doorcodes for any door you have access to by tapping in the doorcode icon in the Access tab.
- Invite guests so they can unlock your unit door during a window of time you define.
- Perform a Door Sync to update a device's clock and credential list — useful after a power outage or if a lock behaves unexpectedly.
- View your access history — a log of who has unlocked your unit door.
What you won't be able to do
- Reassign yourself to a different unit. Contact your property manager if you move to a different apartment.
- Change a communal doorcode on your own. Communal codes (lobby, gym, etc.) are tied to your property access. If your communal code stops working, ask your property management team to revoke and re-grant your access, which generates a new code.
- See which other residents have access to communal doors. Access lists are managed by the property team, not visible to residents.
- Sign in to DOOR OS. The DOOR OS portal at app.door.com is for property managers. Residents use only the DOOR App.
