The DOOR App requests several system permissions when you first open it. This article explains what each permission is used for and what stops working if you deny it.
Permissions overview
| Permission | Platform | What it's for | What breaks if denied | How to re-enable |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Bluetooth | iOS and Android | Unlocking doors with Hold Near to Unlock or Tap to Unlock | App unlock stops working entirely — doorcodes and Keycards still work | Settings → DOOR → Bluetooth → On |
| Location — While Using the App | iOS only | iOS requires location access for an app to discover nearby Bluetooth devices | App unlock stops working on iOS | Settings → DOOR → Location → While Using |
| Notifications | iOS and Android | Alerts for guest access, Door Sync reminders, and lock-related warnings | You won't receive push alerts from DOOR | Settings → DOOR → Notifications → Allow |
| Camera | iOS and Android | Scanning QR codes during device activation (typically used by installers) | QR scan won't work — most residents never need this | Settings → DOOR → Camera → Allow |
| NFC | Android only | Tap-to-unlock (NFC Background Unlock) without opening the app | NFC unlock disabled; app falls back to Bluetooth | Settings → Apps → DOOR → Permissions → NFC → Allow |
Notes
- Bluetooth is required. Without Bluetooth permission, the DOOR App cannot unlock any door. Doorcodes and Latch Keycards still work at the lock regardless of app permissions.
- iOS location permission is not optional for app unlock. Apple's CoreBluetooth framework requires "While Using" location access for Bluetooth device discovery — this is an OS requirement, not a DOOR decision.
- Denying notifications is low risk. The app still works. You'll miss guest alerts and any push reminders, but unlocking is unaffected.
- Android users: NFC permission only matters if you plan to use NFC unlock (holding the phone to the lock without opening the app). If you use standard Bluetooth unlock, NFC permission is not needed.
How to check your app permissions

- Open Settings.
- Scroll down and tap DOOR.
- Review each permission shown and adjust as needed.
On Android:

- Tap DOOR.
- Tap Permissions.
- Review each permission shown and adjust as needed.
