DOOR Dimmer Switch overview

The DOOR Dimmer Switch is a wired, in-wall smart dimmer that replaces a standard light switch and controls a dimmable light from the wall, the DOOR App, and schedules. Like every DOOR Smart Home device, it connects through the DOOR Hub rather than joining WiFi directly — a Hub must be installed and online for app control and remote access.

This article explains what the Dimmer Switch controls, what it works with, and what it needs to run. For installation, daily use, and troubleshooting, see the related articles.

What the DOOR Dimmer Switch controls

  • Brightness, from the wall buttons (short press steps in 20% increments; long press fine-tunes by 1%) or the DOOR App's brightness slider.
  • On/off, from the wall or the app.
  • Gentle on/off fade transitions (0–20 seconds).
  • Schedules and a timer — up to 6 device-based schedules plus a single-use countdown timer, both of which run without internet.
  • After a power outage or firmware update, it restores its last state.

What it works with

The Dimmer Switch controls dimmable bulbs up to these loads:

Bulb typeMaximum load
LED150 W
Fluorescent / CFL150 W
Halogen450 W
Incandescent450 W

It is not for ceiling fans, receptacles (outlets), motor-driven appliances, or transformer-supplied appliances.

What it needs to work

  • A neutral wire. The Dimmer Switch will not function without a neutral wire. If the box has no neutral, a qualified electrician must add one.
  • 120 VAC, 60 Hz power; maximum output current 3.75 A. Indoor locations only.
  • A DOOR Hub online for app control, schedules-by-app, alerts, and remote access.

3-way (two-location) control

The Dimmer Switch is not compatible with traditional 3-way wiring. To control one light from two locations, use two DOOR switches wired as standard switches and paired locally with Control-D2D pairing — no DOOR App needed for the pairing itself. The light follows the highest dimmer setting between the two. See 3-Way Switch Configuration for DOOR Dimmer & Power Switch.

Status and brightness LEDs

The switch has a Status LED (red when the light is off, green when on) and Brightness LEDs showing the level (20%–100%). Both can be turned off in the DOOR App if you'd rather they not illuminate.
