Property managers can upgrade firmware on the locks at their property using the DOOR App. This is the right path during walkthroughs, after a device is installed, or when DOOR releases a firmware update that's only relevant for property-team-managed common-area devices residents don't access. This article covers the manager-side flow.
About this feature
Firmware upgrades fix bugs and ship new features (e.g., shorter doorcodes need firmware G 2.0.7+ on G-Lens locks). DOOR distributes firmware via the DOOR App over Bluetooth, so:
- The manager performing the upgrade must be physically near the device.
- The device is unavailable during the upgrade — typically about 5 minutes per device while the firmware downloads, applies, and restarts. Plan upgrades for low-traffic windows on common-area doors.
- Each device upgrades independently; you cannot bulk-upgrade an entire property in one tap.
For resident-driven upgrades on a unit door, see How do I perform a firmware upgrade on my Latch device?.
Before you start
- You're signed in to the DOOR App with a property-manager account that has Device Management Permissions for the property.
- Your phone has Bluetooth enabled and the DOOR App has Bluetooth permission.
- You're within Bluetooth range (~3 meters) of the device.
- The device has enough battery for the upgrade. Upgrades fail or stall on critically low batteries — replace batteries first if needed.
Steps — See which devices need an upgrade
- Sign in to DOOR OS.
- Navigate to Reports → Access Devices.
- Review the Firmware Version column and the Firmware Upgrade Needed indicator. Devices with a pending upgrade are flagged.
- In the DOOR App, the Home screen shows a Locks section with three cards: Sync, Upgrade, and Low battery. Tap Upgrade to see the list of locks with a pending firmware upgrade.
Steps — Upgrade firmware on a single device
- Open the DOOR App at the property.
- Tap Devices in the bottom navigation.
- Open the Doors tab and tap the device you want to upgrade.
- Tap Upgrade Firmware (or your device's equivalent).
- Stay within Bluetooth range (~3 meters) for the duration of the upgrade. The app shows progress; do not close the app or move away until the upgrade reports complete.
- After the device restarts, perform a Door Sync and confirm the new firmware version in the device detail view.
Steps — If the upgrade fails
- Confirm Bluetooth is on and reconnect to the device.
- Check battery level on the device — replace if low.
- Move closer to the device and retry the upgrade.
- If the device still fails to upgrade, contact DOOR Support at support@door.com with the device's name, serial number, current firmware version, and the error message displayed in the app.
After the upgrade
- Run a Door Sync from the device detail view to push any pending access updates the device may have missed during the firmware reboot.
- For features that depend on a specific firmware version (e.g., shorter doorcodes need G 2.0.7+), confirm the new version meets the requirement before enabling those features in DOOR OS.
