How do I perform a firmware upgrade on my Latch device?

Firmware updates improve Latch device performance, security, and functionality. Some features — like shorter doorcodes — require a minimum firmware version. You can trigger a firmware upgrade from the DOOR App when one is available.

About this feature

Residents can upgrade firmware on select Latch devices directly from the DOOR App: Latch M variants, Latch C2, and eGenius. Not all devices show the upgrade option — if you don't see it, your device either has the latest firmware or does not support resident-initiated upgrades.

The upgrade takes up to 5 minutes. The device is briefly unusable while the update installs — the lock will not respond to the app, doorcodes, or Keycards during this window. Stay near the device and keep the app open until the upgrade finishes.

Before you start

  • Stand within Bluetooth range of the Latch device.
  • Make sure your phone's Bluetooth is on.
  • Make sure your phone has a good internet connection (required to download the firmware).
  • Android only: enable Location Services before starting (required for Bluetooth on Android).
  • The device battery should be above 30% to reduce the risk of the upgrade failing mid-install.

Steps

  1. Open the DOOR App and go to Access.
  2. Tap the door you want to upgrade.
  3. Tap Upgrade Firmware on the door's page.
  4. Keep your phone within Bluetooth range until the upgrade completes — up to 5 minutes. Do not close the app or walk away.

When the upgrade finishes, the app returns to the door's page and shows the updated firmware version under Device Details.

If the door already shows the latest firmware version, no upgrade is needed.

If the upgrade fails

  1. Close the DOOR App completely (swipe it away from the app switcher).
  2. Reopen the app.
  3. Try the upgrade again. Repeat up to 3 times total.

If the upgrade still fails after 3 attempts, contact your property management team.
