Creating and editing doors

A Door in DOOR OS is the digital representation of a physical access point. Creating a Door is a required step before installing or activating any Latch device — the device gets linked to the Door during activation.

About this feature

A Door is a persistent object in DOOR OS. Devices can come and go — they get activated to a Door, swapped out, or deactivated — but the Door itself (and the access permissions attached to it) remains. This means you can set up access before hardware arrives, and access is preserved through device replacements.

The Door's name is displayed in the DOOR App to residents, so use clear, descriptive labels (for example: "Front Entrance", "Gym", "Unit 202").

Before you start

Plan which door type to use for each door. Door type controls privacy rules for access logs and cannot be changed after a device has been activated to the door.

Door type Use for
Building Entrance Entryways, vestibules, and passages from exterior to interior
Residence Apartment front doors — access logs for residents marked "Resident" remain private
Service Maintenance rooms, storage, and areas restricted to residents
Communal Gyms, lounges, and shared community spaces

Creating a door

  1. Log in to DOOR OS.
  2. Go to AccessDoors.
  3. Select Add Door.
  4. Enter a name for the door. This name appears in the DOOR App, so make it descriptive.
  5. Select the appropriate door type.
  6. Save the door.

The door is now created and shows as Not activated. Once a Latch device is activated to it during installation, the status updates and any users already assigned access through a Key will be able to open the door.

Editing a door

You can update the door name and some settings after creation. Navigate to AccessDoors → select the door → Edit.

Note: Once a device has been activated to a door, the door type cannot be changed. If you selected the wrong type, deactivate the device first, create a new door with the correct type and activate the device under that door.

Troubleshooting

  • Door type cannot be changed: a device is already activated to this door. Deactivate the device, create a new door with the correct type, and activate the device there.
  • Residents can't see the door in the DOOR App: confirm the user has been assigned a Key that includes this door.
