Units in DOOR OS are digital representations of apartments or residential spaces. They are required for adding residents to the intercom directory and for smart home installations.
About this feature
A unit groups one or more residents under a single apartment identifier. When you link a user to a unit - and if they have key access to the door linked to the intercom - they appear in the building's intercom directory under that unit number.
Assigning a user to a unit does not grant them access to any doors. Door access is controlled separately through Keys. See What are Units, Doors, and Keys? for how these relate.
Creating a unit
You can create units one at a time or by uploading a CSV file.
To create a unit manually:
- Log in to DOOR OS.
- Go to Access → Units.
- Select Add Unit in the top right corner.
- Enter the unit name or number and save.
To create units in bulk: upload a CSV file from the same Add Unit screen. This is recommended when setting up a new property with many units.
Editing a unit
- Log in to DOOR OS.
- Go to Access → Units.
- Select the unit you want to edit.
- Select Edit in the top right corner.
- Update the unit name and save.
Assigning a unit to a user
From a user's profile:
- Log in to DOOR OS.
- Go to People.
- Select the user you want to assign to a unit.
- Select Edit in the top right corner.
- Select Unit.
- Choose the unit from the dropdown and save.
During an invitation:
When sending an invitation, you can assign a unit at the same time: People → Invite → DOOR App → under the Email field, select a unit from the Unit dropdown.
Troubleshooting
- Unit does not appear in the intercom directory: the user assigned to the unit may not have an active account yet, or the user doesn't have access to the door linked to the intercom, or the intercom may need a sync. Contact DOOR Support if the issue persists.
- CSV upload fails: download the CSV template from DOOR OS to confirm your file uses the correct format and column headers.
