All five DOOR Smart Home Sensors share the same activation flow — only the mounting differs by sensor. This guide covers the shared setup, then the per-sensor placement notes. The detailed diagrams for each sensor live in that sensor's Quick Start Guide PDF, linked under Diagrams. This article is for installers and property managers with Device Management permissions.
About these devices
Every sensor connects to the internet through the DOOR Hub, not directly over WiFi. The Hub must be installed and online before you add any sensor. Each sensor is battery-powered and ships with its batteries installed, so activation is mostly: power it on, scan its QR code, and place it.
Requirements
- A DOOR Hub installed and online at the property (install it first — see Installing DOOR Hub).
- The DOOR App, signed in with Device Management permissions.
- The Unit the sensor belongs to already created in DOOR OS, so the sensor can be assigned to it.
- An indoor location within the Hub's wireless range. (The Temperature and Humidity Sensor is IP63 and the Leak Detector is IP68, but the others are indoor-only.)
Tools
- A phone with the DOOR App
- Cleaning wipe for the mounting surface (adhesive mounts)
- A screwdriver and the included screws (only if screw-mounting)
Steps — shared for every sensor
- Confirm the Hub is online in the DOOR App.
- Power on the sensor. Briefly press the sensor's SET button until the status LED blinks red once, then green once — this means it has powered on and is connecting to the Hub and cloud.
- Add the sensor in the app. In the DOOR App, tap Devices → Add a device. Approve camera access if prompted.
- Scan the QR code on the sensor (or the back shell). If you can't scan it, enter the serial number instead.
- Follow the on-screen instructions and assign the sensor to the correct Unit so it appears under that unit in Devices → Controls.
- Mount and test the sensor using the per-sensor notes below, watching its status in the app to confirm it reports correctly.
Per-sensor placement
Open and Close Monitor
Mount the sensor and magnet on the indoor, secure side of the door or window, on a swing or sliding leaf. Align the two semi-circle guides — they can sit on different planes or at an angle. Keep the gap within ¾" (19 mm) when closed, but not so tight the pieces collide with temperature expansion, and not at the absolute maximum gap (which can cause false "open" readings). Avoid the hinge side and spots where the sensor could be kicked or struck. Either piece can go on the moving part.
Motion Detector
Wall- or ceiling-mount with the adhesive strip or magnetic plate. Suggested heights: about 5 ft on a wall, 9–13 ft on a ceiling. Aim it so people cross its field rather than walk straight at it. Keep it away from heat sources and direct airflow that could cause false triggers.
Leak Detector
Place it flat on the floor where water would pool, cupped side up, at the low point of any floor slope, near the likely leak source (under sinks, behind toilets, near water heaters, dishwashers, fridges, HVAC). Avoid traffic areas where it could be kicked. Test by bridging a pair of electrodes with a damp paper towel or finger, confirm the alert in the app, then dry it and confirm it returns to No Leak Detected.
Leak Lasso
Mount the body on a wall near the floor with the supplied hook and double-sided tape, then run the sensing rope along the area to protect. Add the optional extension cable if you need more reach. The Leak Lasso has a built-in sounder (up to 105 dB) — confirm the Beep setting in the app matches what the resident wants.
Temperature and Humidity Sensor
Mount with magnets, screws, nails, or adhesive at the height where you want readings. It is IP63, so a shaded or semi-exposed outdoor spot is acceptable; avoid direct rain and direct sun. Confirm the LCD shows live readings after placement.
Verification
- Each sensor shows Online in the DOOR App, assigned to the correct Unit.
- Trigger each sensor (open the door, wave at the motion sensor, wet the leak electrodes/rope) and confirm the status and history update in the app.
- The status LED blinks red once periodically (normal operation). A fast red blink every 30 seconds means the batteries are already low — replace them.
Troubleshooting
- Sensor won't power on — the batteries may be dead or inserted incorrectly; reseat or replace them.
- Sensor won't come online — confirm the Hub is online and the sensor is within wireless range; move it closer or add a Hub.
- Open/Close shows open when closed — the gap is too large or the door has too much play; move the magnet closer.
