DOOR Smart Home Sensors are battery-powered devices that monitor a unit and report to the DOOR App — an open door, motion, a water leak, or the room's temperature and humidity. There are five sensors in the family. They all share the same foundation: each one connects through the DOOR Hub rather than joining WiFi directly, so a Hub must be installed and online before any sensor will work.
This article summarizes what each sensor does and where it fits. For installation, daily use, troubleshooting, and full specifications, see the related articles at the end.
What every sensor has in common
- Connects through the DOOR Hub over a private DOOR wireless network (open-air range over 300 meters) — never directly to WiFi.
- Battery powered — no wiring. Most use 2 AAA batteries; the Temperature and Humidity Sensor uses 2 AA lithium batteries.
- Reports to the DOOR App, where you see status, history, and configure alerts. A sensor must be assigned to a Unit to appear under that unit in Devices → Controls.
- Status LED that signals power-on, cloud connection, alerts, and low battery (a fast red blink every 30 seconds means the batteries are low).
The five sensors
DOOR Open and Close Monitor
Detects whether a door or window is open or closed using a magnetic reed switch and a paired magnet. Works on swing and sliding doors, windows, cabinets, drawers, and hatches. Mounts with adhesive tape or screws; the maximum sensor-to-magnet gap is about ¾" (19 mm). Alerts can fire on open, on close, or both, and you can set an "open too long" reminder. Indoor use only.
DOOR Motion Detector
A PIR (passive infrared) sensor that detects body movement by temperature change. Covers up to about 20 feet (6 meters), with a 360° cone from below and a 120° side profile. Wall- or ceiling-mounts with an adhesive strip or magnetic plate (suggested heights: 5 ft on a wall, 9–13 ft on a ceiling). Best at detecting motion that crosses its field rather than walking straight at it. Indoor use only.
DOOR Leak Detector
A flat puck that detects water through electrodes on the bottom (pooling water) and a cupped area on top (drips from above). Rated IP68 (submersible to 1 meter for 30 minutes, not for permanent submersion). It has no built-in sounder — alerts come through the DOOR App, SMS, and email only. Place it where leaks are likely: under sinks, behind toilets, near water heaters, dishwashers, fridges, and HVAC units.
DOOR Leak Lasso
A leak detector with a water-sensing rope instead of fixed electrodes — a 3.93 ft (1.2 m) cable that detects water anywhere along its length, with an optional extension that adds 11 ft (3.5 m). Unlike the Leak Detector, the Leak Lasso has a built-in sounder (up to 105 dB) that you can toggle on or off in the app. Mounts on a wall near the floor with the supplied hook and double-sided tape; the rope runs along the area you want to protect. Indoor use only.
DOOR Temperature and Humidity Sensor
Monitors ambient temperature and humidity, showing live readings on a built-in LCD and 24-hour history (with daily, weekly, and monthly charts) in the DOOR App. Typical accuracy is about ±0.2 °C and ±2% humidity. Rated IP63, so it tolerates dust and light rain for shaded or semi-exposed outdoor spots. Mounts with magnets, screws, nails, or adhesive. Set separate temperature and humidity alert thresholds in the app.
At a glance
| Sensor | Detects | Battery | Sounder | Placement |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Open and Close Monitor | Door/window open or closed | 2 × AAA | No | Indoor — door/window/cabinet |
| Motion Detector | Movement (PIR) | 2 × AAA | No | Indoor — wall or ceiling |
| Leak Detector | Water (electrodes) | 2 × AAA | No | Indoor — on the floor |
| Leak Lasso | Water (rope cable) | 2 × AAA | Yes (up to 105 dB) | Indoor — wall near floor |
| Temperature and Humidity Sensor | Temperature + humidity | 2 × AA lithium | No | Indoor or shaded outdoor (IP63) |
