Latch C2 overview

The Latch C2 is a Bluetooth-enabled smart deadbolt for residential apartment unit doors. Unlike the Latch C1, the C2 is not motorized — the deadbolt does not move automatically. Instead, presenting a valid credential (app, doorcode, or Keycard) unlocks the exterior thumbturn for 10 seconds, during which the resident can physically turn it to retract or extend the deadbolt. From the interior, the thumbturn always works freely.

The C2 does not include a physical key cylinder — there is no mechanical key override.

The Latch C2 is a fully offline device. It does not connect to WiFi. All credential updates and firmware upgrades are delivered via Door Sync through the DOOR app.

Access methods

  • DOOR app: presents a Bluetooth credential that enables the exterior thumbturn for 10 seconds
  • Doorcode: numeric code entered on the Latch Lens — enables the exterior thumbturn for 10 seconds on success
  • Latch Keycard: NFC tap against the Lens — enables the exterior thumbturn for 10 seconds on success

How locking and unlocking work

From outside: Present a valid credential → the exterior thumbturn engages for 10 seconds → turn the thumbturn toward the door frame to extend the deadbolt (lock) or away from it to retract (unlock) → after 10 seconds the thumbturn disengages and the deadbolt position is fixed

From inside: The interior thumbturn is always free — turn it in either direction at any time to lock or unlock

There is no auto-lock on the Latch C2.

Connectivity

The Latch C2 uses Bluetooth (BLE 5.0) for app-based credential verification and NFC (13.56 MHz DESFire Light) for Keycard reads. It does not connect to WiFi. Credential updates and firmware reach the device via Door Sync through the DOOR app while in Bluetooth range.

What DOOR OS shows

DOOR OS displays whether the residential locks are activated and their last reported battery level. There is no real-time online/offline status.

Power

The Latch C2 runs on 6 AA alkaline batteries. The electronics (Bluetooth, NFC, Lens) consume the battery — the deadbolt itself requires no power to move. Battery level is reported to DOOR OS. Replace batteries before they are fully depleted. The Latch C2's batteries should last 24 months under normal usage with 6 x AA Duracell non-rechargeable batteries.

If the batteries are fully depleted, a Qi-compatible wireless charger held against the device can provide enough power to enable the 10-second thumbturn window — this is an emergency measure to regain entry before replacing batteries.

Door compatibility

  • Door thickness: 1-3/8" or 1-3/4"
  • Backset: 2-3/8" or 2-3/4"
  • Door preparation: 5-1/2" center to center with a 1" crossbore
  • Deadbolt throw: 1"

What Latch C2 is not

  • Not motorized — the deadbolt does not move automatically; the user must physically turn the thumbturn
  • Does not include a physical key cylinder — unlike the Latch C1, there is no mechanical key override
  • Does not connect to WiFi or any network
  • Does not include video or intercom capability
