Managing Smart Home Device Notifications

DOOR Smart Home device notifications can be managed at two levels: account-level (your personal preferences across every property and device you have access to) and device-level (whether a specific device sends alerts to anyone). Knowing which level to change matters — turning off device-level alerts silences notifications for every user with access to the device, including residents.

About this feature

Level Affects Use when
Account-Level Notifications Only your personal alerts across all properties and devices you have access to You want to pause your own notifications without changing what other users receive
Device-Level Alerts All users with access to that specific device (residents, other managers) A device is in maintenance, or you want to disable a specific alert source for everyone

Available notification channels at the account level: Email, Push (DOOR App), and SMS.

Before you start

  • You're signed in to the DOOR App or DOOR OS with property management permissions.
  • For device-level changes, you have Device Management Permissions for the property.

Steps — Configure account-level notifications

These settings only affect your own alerts.

  1. Open the DOOR App or sign in to DOOR OS with your account.
  2. Tap the notification icon (bell icon) in the top-right of the home screen.
  3. Tap the settings icon in the top corner of the notifications screen.
  4. Navigate to the Devices section.
  5. Toggle each channel as needed:
    • Email notifications
    • Push notifications
    • SMS notifications

Note: Disabling notifications at the account level prevents you from receiving alerts from any Smart Home device across every property you manage, regardless of device-level alert settings.

Steps — Configure device-level alerts

These settings affect every user with access to the device. Use carefully — disabling alerts at the device level means residents stop receiving alerts about that device too.

  1. Open the DOOR App or DOOR OS and sign in.
  2. From the main menu, navigate to Devices → Controls (or just Controls in DOOR OS).
  3. Locate and select the Smart Home device you want to configure.
  4. Tap Open device settings.
  5. Open the Settings tab.
  6. Find the Alerts option and toggle it on or off.

Important: Disabling alerts at the device level prevents all users — residents and other property managers — from receiving notifications about that device. Use this only for maintenance windows or when the device is permanently silenced as part of building policy.

Best practices

  • Use account-level control when you want to pause your own notifications during off-hours or change the channels you receive on. Other users are unaffected.
  • Use device-level control for maintenance windows on a specific sensor, or when a device is being serviced and shouldn't generate alerts to anyone.
  • Enable multiple channels (Email + Push + SMS) on critical accounts. Push notifications can fail silently if a phone is offline; redundancy ensures urgent alerts (like leak detection) are received.

If it didn't work

  • You're not getting alerts even with account-level on — confirm the device-level alert is on and that you have access to the device. Account-level settings can't surface alerts from devices you don't have permission to see.
  • A resident reports missing alerts — check whether device-level alerts are off (which silences everyone) before adjusting their account.
  • SMS notifications aren't arriving — verify your phone number on file with DOOR. Contact support@door.com to update it if needed.
