DOOR OS is where property managers configure DOOR Smart Home devices — DOOR Hub, sensors, thermostats, and dimmer switches — at the building level. Use DOOR OS for renaming devices, configuring alerts, viewing device history, and deactivating devices from the property. Activating new Smart Home hardware happens in the DOOR App at the device's location, not in DOOR OS.
This article covers the manager flows. For resident-side smart home controls, see Using Smart Home controls in the DOOR App (RES-033).
About this feature
DOOR OS exposes Smart Home devices in the Controls section. From there, managers can:
- See every Smart Home device at the property (or a specific unit).
- Edit device names and settings.
- Configure device alerts and notification preferences (see Managing Smart Home device notifications).
- Review device history (sensor readings, thermostat changes).
- Delete or deactivate a device from the property.
Activation, on the other hand, requires physical access to the device and the DOOR App's pairing flow. DOOR OS cannot pair new hardware on its own.
Before you start
- You're signed in to DOOR OS with property management permissions.
- You're working in the correct portfolio and property scope (top-left selector in DOOR OS).
- The Smart Home devices you want to manage are already activated. If not, see How do I manage devices from the DOOR App as a property manager? for activation.
Steps — Configure a Smart Home device's settings or alerts
- Sign in to DOOR OS.
- Confirm you're in the correct property using the top-left scope selector.
- In the navigation bar, click Controls.
- Find the device:
- If activated at the building level (no unit), it appears below the Building dropdown.
- If activated inside a unit, click into the unit first, then click the device tile.
- Click the device's tile.
- Open the Settings sub-tab and adjust the available menus. The available settings vary by device type — sensors expose alert thresholds, thermostats expose setpoints and schedules, dimmers expose default brightness.
- Save your changes.
Steps — View a device's history
- Open the device's tile in Controls (steps 1–5 above).
- Open the History sub-tab.
- Review the sensor readings, threshold breaches, or control changes recorded by the device.
Steps — Delete or deactivate a device
Removing a device from the property unenrolls it from DOOR OS. To re-add it, you have to re-activate via the DOOR App.
- Sign in to DOOR OS and confirm property scope.
- Click Controls in the home screen tile or navigation menu.
- Locate the device tile (building level or inside a unit, as above).
- Click the device's tile.
- Click Delete device at the top right of the section.
- Confirm the deletion.
If it didn't work
- Controls section is empty — no Smart Home devices have been activated at this property yet, or you're in the wrong property scope.
- Device tile shows "Offline" — the device has lost its connection to the DOOR Hub or to WiFi. See DOOR Smart Home devices basic troubleshooting.
- You can't activate from DOOR OS — activation requires the DOOR App on-site. DOOR OS cannot pair devices on its own.
