The Latch G-M2 is a Bluetooth-enabled mortise lock with a lever handle, designed for residential apartment unit doors and light commercial entries. It replaces an existing mortise lockset and gives residents keyless access via the DOOR app, a numeric doorcode entered on the Latch Lens, or a Latch Keycard. The "M" refers to the mortise form factor — the device works only on doors prepared for a mortise pocket. The "G" refers to the Geneva Lens — the same lens hardware used on the Latch C2 and Interconnect, one of the newer lens designs in the Latch product line.
The Latch G-M2 is a fully offline device. It does not connect to WiFi. Credential changes (new keys, schedules, revoked access) reach the device via a Door Sync performed from the DOOR app while in Bluetooth range. Firmware upgrades are a separate process from Door Sync.
The G-M2 includes a physical Schlage 6-pin key cylinder — a standard mechanical key can be used to operate the lock at any time, independent of the app or batteries.
Access methods
- DOOR app: unlock via Bluetooth while within range of the device
- Doorcode: numeric code entered on the Latch Lens (the exterior keypad)
- Latch Keycard: NFC tap against the Lens
- Mechanical key: the G-M2 includes a key cylinder — a standard physical key can be used to lock or unlock the deadbolt at any time, independent of the app or batteries
How locking and unlocking work
From outside: The exterior lever is locked at all times — it cannot be turned without a valid credential. Present a credential (app, doorcode, or Keycard) → the lever hub engages for approximately 10 seconds → turn the lever to retract the latchbolt and pull the door open. The hub disengages automatically when the window closes. If the deadbolt is thrown, presenting the credential retracts both the latchbolt and the deadbolt as part of the same action.
From inside: The interior lever and thumbturn are always free. Turn the lever to retract the latchbolt; turn the thumbturn to throw or retract the deadbolt manually. The deadbolt does not auto-throw — it must be engaged with the thumbturn (from inside) or the mechanical key (from outside).
With the mechanical key: Insert the key into the exterior cylinder. Rotate one direction to retract the latchbolt; rotate the other to throw or retract the deadbolt. The mechanical key works regardless of battery state.
Connectivity
The Latch G-M2 uses Bluetooth Low Energy for app-based credential verification and NFC for Keycard reads. It does not connect to WiFi or any network. Credential updates reach the device via a Door Sync performed from the DOOR app while in Bluetooth range. Firmware upgrades are a separate process — they are not part of a Door Sync.
What DOOR OS shows
DOOR OS displays whether the Latch G-M2 is activated and its last reported battery level. There is no real-time online/offline status — the device operates independently of any network connection.
Power
The Latch G-M2 runs on 6 AA non-rechargeable alkaline batteries housed in the interior battery tray. The electronics (Bluetooth, NFC, Lens) consume the battery — the latchbolt and deadbolt themselves require no power to move. Battery level is reported to DOOR OS via passive monitoring and active notifications whenever the battery reaches >20%. Replace batteries before they are fully depleted.
If the batteries are fully depleted, two recovery paths are available:
- The mechanical key can be used to operate the lock regardless of battery state.
- A Qi-compatible wireless charger held against the exterior Lens can provide enough power to perform a Bluetooth unlock from the DOOR app. The G-M2 uses the same Geneva Lens as the Latch C2 and accepts Qi jumpstart as an emergency measure to regain entry before replacing batteries.
Door compatibility
- Door thickness: 1-3/4" (44.5mm)
- Backset: 2-3/4" (69.9mm)
- Door preparation: mortise pocket meeting the included template
- Deadbolt throw: 1" (25.4mm)
- Faceplate: 1.25" x 8" (standard) or 1.0625" x 7.25" (narrow option for tighter retrofits)
- Handing: field reversible — the same G-M2 device can be installed on left-hand or right-hand doors
What Latch G-M2 is not
- Not a deadbolt-only lock — for residential deadbolt doors, see Latch C1 or Latch C2
- Not motorized for the latchbolt — the user must physically turn the lever or use the mechanical key
- Does not connect to WiFi or any network
- Does not include video or intercom capability
