If the DOOR App hangs on the loading screen, freezes after opening, or crashes when you launch it, the most common cause is an outdated app version or a temporary connection issue. The fixes below resolve most cases in under a minute.
Symptom
You tap the DOOR App icon and one of the following happens:
- The app stays on the splash/loading screen and never reaches your Access list.
- The app opens but freezes when you scroll or tap a door.
- The app crashes back to the home screen seconds after opening.
Quick fix
Try these in order. Stop as soon as the app opens normally:
- Force-quit the app and reopen it. On iOS, swipe up from the bottom (or double-press the home button on older models) and swipe the DOOR App away. On Android, open the recent apps view and swipe the DOOR App away. Then tap the icon to relaunch.
- Update the DOOR App from the App Store (iOS) or Google Play (Android). Outdated versions are the single most common cause of crashes.
- Restart your phone. A full restart clears cached state that may be blocking the app from loading.
If the app still won't open after all three steps, continue to the diagnosis below.
Possible root causes
- Outdated DOOR App. The app stops loading correctly when it falls too far behind the supported version range — the server expects a newer client.
- Outdated phone OS. The DOOR App requires iOS 15+ or Android 10+. Older operating systems can crash the app on launch.
- Cached state corruption. Force-quitting and restarting usually clears this; if it doesn't, reinstalling the app does.
- Account on multiple properties with weak connectivity. If your account is tied to several properties, the initial sync at launch is heavier. A weak network connection can stall the loading screen.
Step-by-step diagnosis
- Run the Quick fix above (force-quit, update, restart).
- Check your phone's OS version. Update to iOS 15+ or Android 10+ if older.
- Reinstall the DOOR App. Delete it from your phone, then reinstall from the App Store or Google Play. Sign in again with your DOOR email and password.
- Check your network. Switch between WiFi and cellular and try again. Slow or unstable connections can prevent the initial sync.
- Ask another resident at your building if their app works. If multiple residents are affected at the same time, the issue is likely on DOOR's side rather than your phone.
When to escalate
Contact DOOR Support at support@door.com if:
- The app still won't open after force-quit, update, restart, and reinstall.
- You see a specific error message on launch — include it in your message.
- Other residents at your property are affected at the same time (mention this so DOOR can check for a property-wide issue).
If you cannot get into the app at all and need to access a door urgently, use a doorcode you have memorized, your Latch Keycard, or contact your property management team. See What if I lock my phone inside, the battery dies, or my phone is stolen?.
