How do I use a Latch Keycard to unlock?

A Latch Keycard is a physical card — similar to a hotel key — that lets you unlock any DOOR-equipped door you have access to without using your phone. Tap the card to the lock's lens and the door opens.

About this feature

Your Keycard is tied to your DOOR account and carries your access across every door and every building where you have access. You can only have one active Keycard at a time. Some buildings do not issue Keycards — ask your property management team about your building's policy.

Before you start

  • A Latch Keycard issued by your property management team, or one you received and need to activate yourself.
  • Access to the email address on your DOOR account.

How to activate a Keycard

Your property team usually activates the card for you. If they haven't, or if you have access to multiple properties, activate it yourself:

  1. Go to keycard.latch.com.
  2. Click Activate Keycard.
  3. Enter the serial number printed on the back of the Keycard.
  4. Enter the email address you use to sign in to the DOOR App.
  5. Open the activation email DOOR sends and tap Activate.
  6. Follow the prompts to add the Keycard to your doors.

The Keycard is ready to use once you complete activation.

How to unlock with a Keycard

  1. Tap the lens of the Latch device with your finger. The LED ring lights up.
  2. Hold the Keycard flat against the lens.
  3. The door unlocks.

If the lens blinks after you present the Keycard, your access may not be synced to the device. Perform a Door Sync and try again.

How to deactivate a Keycard

Deactivate your Keycard immediately if it is lost or stolen:

  1. Go to keycard.latch.com.
  2. Click Deactivate.
  3. Enter your DOOR email address.
  4. Confirm from the email DOOR sends.

Notify your property management team so they can sync your doors and ensure the old Keycard stops working. On non-internet-connected doors, you can also run the sync yourself from the DOOR App.

If it didn't work

Keycard won't activate at keycard.latch.com: Double-check the serial number and email address. If activation still fails, contact your property management team — they can activate the card on their side.
