Managing Latch Keycards for your property

Property managers can activate and deactivate Latch Keycards on behalf of residents directly in DOOR OS. Residents can also activate their own Keycard at keycard.latch.com.

About this feature

A Keycard must be activated before it can unlock doors. There are two ways to activate:

  • Manager activates on behalf of the resident: done from the resident's detail page in DOOR OS.
  • Resident self-activates: done at keycard.latch.com.

Security restriction: if a resident has access to Latch devices at a property outside your portfolio, you cannot activate or deactivate their Keycard on their behalf. In that case, the resident must self-activate or self-deactivate at keycard.latch.com.

Activating a keycard on behalf of a resident

  1. Log in to DOOR OS.
  2. Navigate to the resident's detail page.
  3. Select Activate next to their Keycard Status.
  4. Introduce the Serial Number and click Activate.

The resident receives an email confirming that a Keycard has been activated on their behalf.

For any doors that are not internet-connected, perform a Door Sync after activating so the Keycard is recognized at those locks. See How do I perform a Door Sync?

Deactivating a keycard on behalf of a resident

  1. Log in to DOOR OS.
  2. Navigate to the resident's detail page.
  3. Select Deactivate next to their Keycard Status.

The resident receives an email confirming that their Keycard has been deactivated. Sync any non-internet-connected doors to ensure the Keycard is removed.

What "Activation/Deactivation Pending" means

After you activate or deactivate a Keycard, doors that are not internet-connected need to be synced before the change takes effect at the lock. Pending means some doors haven't been synced yet.

Internet-connected doors update automatically. For offline doors, perform a Door Sync from the DOOR App.

Resident self-activation

If a resident needs to activate their own Keycard:

  1. Make sure the resident's access has been created in DOOR OS.
  2. Give the resident their physical Latch Keycard.
  3. Ask them to visit keycard.latch.com and follow the activation steps.

Important: the Keycard must be activated before the resident opens any doors with the DOOR App for the first time. If they've already used the DOOR App to open doors, they will be prompted to manually sync their doors after activating the Keycard.

Troubleshooting

  • Activate/Deactivate button is not visible: the resident may have access to devices outside your portfolio. They must self-activate at keycard.latch.com.
  • Keycard is not working at a door after activation: the door has not been synced yet. Perform a Door Sync near the affected door.
  • Resident's Keycard is lost or stolen: deactivate it immediately, then see What if my Latch Keycard is lost or stolen?
