If your DOOR App shows a low battery warning on a door, or the Latch device is unresponsive, the batteries may need replacing. If you manage your own unit's lock, you can change the batteries yourself. Otherwise, ask your property management team.
About this feature
Expected battery life under normal use:
| Device | Expected life | Batteries |
|---|---|---|
| Latch M | ~12 months | 6 × AA |
| Latch C2 | ~24 months | 6 × AA |
| Latch C1 | ~9 months | 6 × AA |
| eGenius | ~18 months | 6 × AA |
Use non-rechargeable alkaline AA batteries and replace all batteries at once. Mixing old and new batteries, or mixing brands, reduces battery life and can cause failures.
How to check battery level
- Open the DOOR App → Access → tap the door name.
- Perform a Door Sync to get the most current reading.
- Tap Device Details to see the battery percentage.
Before you start
- 6 × AA non-rechargeable alkaline batteries (all same brand, all new).
- Phillips #2 screwdriver.
- Perform the battery change while you have the DOOR App open and Bluetooth available — you will need to sync the device immediately after.
Steps — Latch M devices
- Using a Phillips #2 screwdriver, remove the two screws on the top and bottom of the inner trim (the interior side of the lock).
- Lift off the inner trim to expose the battery compartment.
- Remove all 6 AA batteries.
- Insert 6 new AA batteries, following the polarity markings (+ and −) in the battery tray.
- Reattach the inner trim and replace both screws.
- Immediately perform a Door Sync. Skipping this step can cause unreliable behavior or disrupt guest access.
For full step-by-step photos, see the Latch M installation guide.
Steps — Latch C and Latch C2
- Using a Phillips #2 screwdriver, remove the two screws on the top and bottom of the inner trim.
- Lift off the inner trim.
- Remove all 6 AA batteries.
- Insert 6 new AA batteries. Important: the battery compartment has tabs on the outer sides. Slide each battery under the tabs before setting it flat — inserting without aligning the tabs prevents the compartment from closing properly.
- Reattach the inner trim and replace both screws.
- Immediately perform a Door Sync.
