Unit Sync — setup and behavior

Unit Sync is the part of DOOR's ePMS integration that automatically assigns residents to their units based on the unit assignment in your PMS. It runs alongside User Sync — you don't enable it separately. This article explains what Unit Sync does, how to map PMS units to DOOR units, and how to disable it if needed.

About this feature

When ePMS is active, DOOR pulls each resident's unit assignment from your PMS together with their profile. Unit Sync is the mechanism that translates the PMS unit (e.g., "Bldg A — 12B") into the corresponding DOOR unit, so the resident's access and unit-based smart-home automation (Vacant/Occupied controls) line up.

For Unit Sync to work, each PMS unit must be mapped to a DOOR unit. The mapping is a one-time setup per property; once mapped, ongoing assignment updates flow automatically.

For the broader ePMS overview, see What is ePMS and how does it work with DOOR?.

When to use Unit Sync

Situation Result
Property uses ePMS and has units already in DOOR OS Map PMS units to DOOR units once, then resident-to-unit assignment is automatic
Property uses ePMS and units are not yet in DOOR OS Bulk-import the units (DOOR Support can help), then map
Property doesn't use ePMS Unit Sync is not active. Assign units manually in DOOR OS

How to enable or disable Unit Sync

Unit Sync enables automatically when you turn on User Sync. There is no separate toggle. See Setting up ePMS in DOOR OS for the User Sync setup flow.

To disable Unit Sync, contact integrations@door.com. The DOOR integrations team handles the deactivation request.

Steps — Map PMS units to DOOR units

  1. Sign in to DOOR OS.
  2. Click Manage Settings and select Integrations.
  3. In the Integrations section, click the blue Manage Settings button.
  4. Open the Unit Mapping tab.
  5. For each PMS unit shown, choose the corresponding DOOR unit from the dropdown.
  6. Save the mapping.

Once saved, residents in mapped PMS units are automatically assigned to the matching DOOR unit on the next sync.

Steps — Remove a unit mapping

  1. In the Unit Mapping tab of the Integrations section, click the blue Edit button next to the mapping you want to remove.
  2. Click Remove Mapping.
  3. Save.

Removing a mapping unlinks the PMS unit from the DOOR unit. Residents already assigned remain assigned, but new assignments from your PMS won't flow until you remap.

Steps — Create units in DOOR OS

If a PMS unit doesn't have a matching DOOR unit yet, create it first:

  1. Sign in to DOOR OS.
  2. Navigate to Access → Units.
  3. Click Actions and select Add Unit.
  4. Either enter the unit details for a single unit, or upload a CSV to bulk-create.

For bulk imports of many PMS units at once, email integrations@door.com — the DOOR integrations team can run the bulk import for you.

If it didn't work

  • PMS unit doesn't appear in the Unit Mapping tab — confirm the PMS property is mapped to your DOOR property in the Property IDs step of ePMS setup. See Setting up ePMS in DOOR OS.
  • Residents are syncing but not landing in the right unit — check the unit mapping. The most common cause is a PMS unit that's not mapped or is mapped to the wrong DOOR unit.
  • Residents missing from a specific unit — verify their lease status isn't excluded and their PMS profile has a valid email.
