Wiring distance recommendations

Minimum wire gauge for power runs:

Distance 12 V 24 V
< 50 ft 22 AWG 22 AWG
< 200 ft 20 AWG 20 AWG
< 500 ft 18 AWG 20 AWG
< 1000 ft 14 AWG 20 AWG

Wiegand (shielded cable):

Distance Gauge
< 50 ft 22 AWG
< 200 ft 22 AWG
< 500 ft 20 AWG
< 1000 ft 20 AWG

Relay wiring: 22 AWG up to 50 ft, 20 AWG up to 200 ft, 18 AWG up to 500 ft.

Environmental

Feature Specification
Operating temperature (device) -40°C to 66°C (-40°F to 151°F)
Operating temperature (camera) -30°C to 66°C (-22°F to 151°F)
Storage temperature -40°C to 66°C
Operating humidity 93% at 32°C, non-condensing
Environmental rating IP65 (dust- and water-jet resistant), IK04 (impact resistant)

Mechanical

Feature Specification
Dimensions 5.49" × 3.18" × 0.76" (139.5 × 80.8 × 19.3 mm)
Mounting options Surface mount, compatible with single-gang electrical boxes, or FABboxx brackets for hard surfaces and mullion mounting
Mounting hardware #6 flathead screws — pan-head screws are not compatible and will cause the device to disengage
Security Single security screw at the bottom of the device locks it to the mounting plate
Finishes Latch Black

Configuration platform requirements

  • Installation, activation, and on-device configuration: the DOOR app on iOS or Android. The Latch Manager app referenced in the 2020 install PDF has been replaced by the DOOR app.
  • Day-to-day resident unlocks: DOOR app on iOS, watchOS, or Android.
  • Property-manager configuration of DSN, EFA, and Relock: DOOR appDevices → select the door → Settings. The phone must be within Bluetooth range of the R2 for configuration changes to apply (updates push to the device over BLE).

Reader behavior (indicator LEDs and buzzer)

The R2 has a touch-activated keypad with backlit keys and a set of indicator LEDs around the upper portion of the device. Behavior is documented in the R Series Installation Guide:

Condition Indication
Normal standby All indicator LEDs off, keypad not illuminated
Keypad active Keypad LEDs illuminated when a finger is detected on the touch surface
Authenticating user Top indicator LED illuminated
Access granted Audible buzzer, all indicator LEDs illuminate and power down in a clockwise animation
Access denied Keypad LEDs blink multiple times

The R2 is wired-powered. A device with all LEDs off and no response to keypad touch is unpowered, not asleep. There is no battery state to check.
