Installing Latch M2

The Latch M2 physical installation is performed by a qualified technician using the M2 Installation Guide included in the box. This article covers what to verify before the technician arrives, how to activate the device in DOOR OS after installation, and what to confirm once the unit is live.

Before installation — confirm door compatibility

Have the technician verify the following before removing the existing lockset:

  • Door thickness: 1-3/4" (44.5mm) — the M2 is not field-configurable for other thicknesses
  • Backset: 2-3/4" (69.9mm)
  • Mortise pocket: the door must be prepped for a standard mortise lock body and must match the cutsheet in the installation guide. Door prep templates are available at support.door.com
  • Door fit: the door must be plumb, properly hung, and close flush — alignment is important for smooth lever and latchbolt operation
  • Deburr all holes so moving parts function properly and the internal wiring isn't damaged by sharp edges

If any of these are out of spec, installation cannot proceed until the door condition is corrected.

Physical installation

The installation guide (included in the box, also linked below) covers all 15 physical steps with diagrams:

  • Setting the latchbolt orientation for the door handing
  • Setting the hub clutch (secure side) screws to the interior of the door
  • Mounting the mortise lock body and routing the cable
  • Installing the spindles, levers, exterior trim, and cylinder
  • Mounting the interior plate, battery tray, and trim
  • Installing the strike plate and verifying alignment

Use hand tools only — do not use a drill. This is explicitly called out in the installation guide.

The lens (exterior assembly) and battery tray (interior assembly) are paired together at the factory. Do not mix exterior and interior assemblies between units on the job site.

Handing and secure side

Both the latchbolt orientation and the hub clutch (secure side) are field reversible. The technician adjusts both during the preparation step using the Allen wrench and a Phillips screwdriver, before mounting the lock body. The thumbturn should point up when the deadbolt is retracted — confirm this orientation before closing the door.

Activating the device

Activation has two parts: the door must exist in DOOR OS, and the physical device is activated from the DOOR app.

1. Confirm the door exists in DOOR OS Log in to DOOR OS → AccessDoors → confirm the door where the Latch M2 was installed is listed. If not, create it before proceeding.

2. Activate the device from the DOOR app

  1. Open the DOOR app → go to the Devices tab
  2. Tap Add a device
  3. Scan the QR code on the device or enter the serial number manually
  4. Follow the on-screen flow to complete activation
  5. Confirm the device appears as activated in DOOR OS → AccessDoors → door

A phone with the DOOR app must be within Bluetooth range of the M2 throughout the activation flow.

After installation — verify

Before closing out the installation, run through this checklist:

  • Cylinder test: insert the mechanical key and rotate one direction to retract the latchbolt, then the other to throw and retract the deadbolt. Operation should be smooth — if there is binding, adjust the cylinder depth before proceeding
  • App unlock: from the DOOR app (installer account), tap Unlock — the lever should free up; turn it to confirm
  • Doorcode: enter a doorcode assigned to this door in DOOR OS — the Lens should respond and the lever should engage
  • Latch Keycard: tap a Keycard flat against the center of the Lens to test NFC reads, if Keycards are in use at this property
  • Interior lever and thumbturn: confirm both turn freely in both directions at all times
  • Door Sync: perform a Door Sync from the DOOR app to confirm credentials are current on the device

If the lever feels stiff, check that the spindle is fully seated and the mortise body is square in the pocket — see the troubleshooting article for diagnostics.
