Elevator Floor Access Groups

Overview

Elevator Floor Access (EFA) is an optional feature your property can install for improved safety and security. It allows users to unlock only the floors they should have access to, preventing unauthorized users from reaching your floor.

Viewing Your Floor Access Permissions

Please note that not all Latch Rs that unlock elevators have Elevator Floor Access. To check if a Latch R has EFA, tap on the respective Door in your Door List in the Door App. This will reveal the Door Detail page. If there is a menu item called “Floor Information”, this Latch R has EFA, and selecting it will tell you which floors you have access to.

Please note that the floors you can access are set by your property manager.

Unlocking Regular Elevators

The Latch R running EFA is typically installed inside the elevator cab and works just like any other Latch R device, except authenticating allows you to select a destination floor instead of unlocking a door. To unlock the floors of an elevator, unlock the Latch R as you would any other Door.

Once the device indicates a successful unlock, you will be able to press the desired floor button, assuming you have access to that floor.

Keep in mind that the elevator will only respond to the floors that you have been given access to by your property manager. If you cannot access the floors you need, please contact your property manager.

Unlocking Elevators with Destination Dispatch

If you select which floor you go to before you get into the elevator cab, chances are your elevator has what’s called destination dispatch. In this case, there will be a Latch R mounted near the elevator kiosk where you select the floor. You will need to unlock at the kiosk instead of the elevator. To do that, unlock the Latch R as you would any other Door. After the device indicates a successful unlock, you will be able to press the desired floor button, assuming you have access to the floor.

Sharing Floor Access

At your property’s discretion, you can share access to elevators like you would share access to your Doors. You can share short- or long-term access with people like friends, family, and with services like cleaning and dog walking. The floors you are able to share are set by your property manager.

If your property manager has allowed you to share access to floors, you can do so through the Door App’s “Let Someone In” feature. On the screen “Select doors,” you can view which floors you have permission to share by tapping the “See floors” link beneath the elevator name.

Additionally, if your property manager has set up guest floor access for elevators using Single Day Doorcodes (both 15-minute and 24-hour codes), you can share floor access using Single Day Doorcodes through the Door App.

What is Door State Notifications?

Door State Notifications (DSN) is an optional feature for the Latch R that sends notifications to property managers based on door states. Notification emails can be configured to be sent to property managers when doors are left ajar or opened without a valid credential. This is a great way to improve the security of a building without hiring additional staff. Please note that additional sensors are required for this functionality.

Door States:

  • Door Ajar: When a door is left ajar, a notification email can be configured to be sent after 30, 60, or 90 seconds.
  • Door Still Ajar: If the door remains ajar, an email can be configured to be sent every 5, 10, or 15 minutes.
  • Door Breached: When a door is opened without a valid credential, a notification email is sent.
  • Door Secure: When a door is not in the Door Secure state and the door is then closed, a Door Secure notification is sent.

Automatic Unlock and Automatic Relock:

Two additional features that are an advantage of the sensors used for DSN, are automatic unlock and relock. The Latch R can be set to automatically unlock when it detects motion on the secure side of the door, allowing egress without manual intervention like pushing a button. The Latch R can also be set to automatically relock as soon as the door has been opened, preventing additional people from entering through an unopened door.

Subscribing and Unsubscribing from Notifications:

Latch R - Elevator Floor Access (EFA)

Before integrating an EFA system, please reach out to Door Support for assistance at doorman@door.com.

Elevator Floor Access (EFA) allows a credential to be required to reach certain floors, increasing security.

Requirements

  • Floor Group Table: The Property Manager must work with Door to set up floor access ahead of installation. Door will then generate a Floor Group Table to be programmed into the access control panel being used for elevators. This will be displayed in the Door App after the R is activated.
  • Third-party access controller: The panel must be able to receive a 26-bit Wiegand credential. If the property requires scheduling or floors to be unlocked during certain hours, this needs to be supported by the access controller. The installer must be comfortable working with the access controller and it must be on Door's approved list. For installers wishing to use access controllers not on this list Door will minimally support the installation/configuration of the panel.
  • Internet: Internet must be provided to the Rs. If an R is installed inside a cab, access to the internet must be provided via Ethernet through transceivers with a coax cable running in the traveling cable.

Wiring Requirements

Programming the Latch R

  • Activating the Latch R
    • During the activation process make sure to select FW Version 5.1x.xx
  • Configuration
    • Internet is mandatory for all EFA installations.
    • Go to the Device Detail page after the activation process.
    • Go to the Settings page.
    • Configure Ethernet or WiFi.
    • Save changes

Programming the Access Panel

  • Floor Groups that mirror the system's Cloud must be created in the panel. Refer to the Floor Lookup Table on the Device Detail page in the Door App.
  • The Floor Lookup Table contains the following:
    • Floor Group Name: This corresponds with the User Name field in most panels.
    • Facility Code and ID Code: Put together this is the Wiegand code.
    • Floors: The floors that belong to this Floor Group.

Example of a Floor Lookup Table

Testing EFA

  1. Prior to the day of installation, the Property Manager must create an account for each Floor Group, assign each account a different Floor Group, and give access to each of the accounts to the Integrator.
  2. Before presenting a credential, test the elevator by making sure that all of the necessary floors are locked.
  3. Present the credential for the first Floor Group.
    1. Confirm that all of the necessary floors are unlocked.
    2. Example: If the first Floor Group has access to floors 2 and 3, verify that floors 2 and 3 are unlocked.
  4. Continue this process for each Floor Group, including the Daily Doorcode Floor Group.
  5. After testing is complete, the Property Manager should delete each of the accounts created for testing.

FABboxx

What is FABboxx?

FABboxx is a third-party product recommended by Door when mounting to hard surfaces such as concrete, stucco, glass, etc. is required, and when cabling needs to be concealed. FABboxx mounts are integrated into the Latch product line for a streamlined appearance to fit the contours of each product.

What products do FABboxx offer?
